That there be a librarian to patrol the quiet floor because the other day I was trying to read, but I could not concentrate because there was a group of people in a room yelling. Maybe make the rooms sound proof for the ability of people to work in the rooms and also outside.

Our Response:
We are looking at ways to improve service on the Upper Level. If you ever have a concern about noise, feel free to let library staff know and we will run interference for you. We did some preliminary soundproofing on October 12, 2007. The next level of soundproofing will cost over $15,000. Your feedback is helpful as we try to decide if the extra level of insulation is worth the money.

More open computers. More printers. Fax machine?

Our Response:
Lavery Library has over 30 desktop computers in open areas. We also have 10 laptops available for check out at the Circulation Desk. If there are no classes scheduled in L100, we will open that classroom for use. Please ask at the Reference Desk for L100 to be opened. There is a documented need for an additional printer in Lavery. We will request an additional printer in the next budget cycle. Your suggestion will help support our request; thank you. Currently, faxes can be sent/received in Central Services, M-F 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fax service in the library is a good idea; we will look into this more closely.

The computers in the front of the library need the software loaded on the computers.  They “supposedly” are going to be loaded within a week.  Not having Microsoft Word is a problem.

Our Response:
The computers to the left of the front door are express stations and were designed to provide quick access to the internet only.  There are more computers with Microsoft applications on the main floor; keep going past the express stations and you will see them on your left.  Did you know that there are 10 laptops available for loan at the circulation desk?  The laptops have the standard lab software and can be used anywhere in the building.

Would it be possible to have a computer with access to the catalogue, which would not need to log onto? It could be meant only for fast catalogue searches.

Our Response:
Yes, we do have a PC with catalog-only access on all three levels. On the Lower Level, the computer is by the pillar closest to the elevator. On the Main Level, it is at the left end of the Circulation Desk. On the Upper Level, the computer is at the end of the first set of shelves on your right as you come out of the staircase closest to the restrooms. These will soon be reconfigured so no logon would be required, to save your time.

Have some library assistants on some of the other floors for additional assistance.

Our Response:
We have just relocated a librarian to an office on the Lower Level. Kathi Sigler is available to help you there. We are considering adding student assistants on the Upper Level. Thank you for letting us know; your suggestion will be factored into our decision.

You Wrote:
We really need more laptops because they are never available and all other computers taken; OR put some more computers on the Quiet Floor because it is difficult to work on the loud floor.

Our Response:
We purchased five more laptops this summer to help with the shortage. We will monitor their use and try to request more to meet your needs.
